Short f&%$ing memory.

Another one from the archives...
I haven’t really spoken too much about the election but I was somewhere on Christmas Eve and during the course of conversation and catching up on the year’s events one personal calamity that came on Election Day was juxtaposed against the outcome of the election which was described by the person speaking as going from bad (personal calamity) to worse (a second term).

And it’s funny because there were a few weeks there when it looked like the election was going to go a different way and I have to say I was a bit worried (ah the irony of being a moderate Republican).

The frustrating thing here is people in our country have such a damn short memory, and let’s take that a step further, they have a short memory at their own peril...
So this is a bit funny because the election I’m referencing is Obama’s reelection in 2012 and I preferred the incumbent over Mitt Romney. However, even though I can’t remember where I was that fateful Christmas Eve (and I’m racking my brain trying to remember) it’s obvious that I was somewhere where the former President was detested.

Here’s the thing... there’s no place in this country for anyone who doesn’t buy into the bullshit of either of the political parties in their totality. You have to goosestep along with everyone else or somehow you are a traitor.

Roll that over in your head for a little while if you will.

For me, it tells me all I need to know about the current state of political discourse in our nation. It’s something that is dominated by the fringe. The zealots have hijacked it and it is to the detriment of the greater good of our nation.

I can be Conservative in some ways, certainly with a tendency to be what would be considered hawkish on Foreign Policy but I justify that by the lessons of history and the firm belief that no nation can negotiate from a position of weakness. Time and again, history has proven not that the meek shall inherit the Earth but that the strong survive and if we would protect and promote the foundations of our Democracy we had better do it because we are the baddest motherfuckers on the planet.

On the flip side, even though I am Conservative there are things I really don’t care too much about. How people choose to live their lives is their business as long as it isn’t forcing anyone else to adjust to them. You live your life and I’ll live mine. No doubt, you have every right to think I’m an asshole for my beliefs just as I have every right to think you’re an asshole because of yours.

Yes, in this nation we do have the right to be assholes and in that we have an abundance, our nation could well be said to have the one biggest untapped natural resource in the number of assholes we have.

You might even think that Proctology should be the biggest growth industry in our nation because we churn out assholes at an amazing rate.

Anyway, I as is often the case lose track of where I was headed in this rant.

Maybe it’s just that I have come to despise people in general on a level. You know that thing I put up as a description to the blog can be real in some ways. I hate that we can’t have a conversation anymore without it evolving into histrionics and mockery but that’s where we are.

It’s just too bad now, get the fuck off my lawn.
